Chaeto Algae (Chaetomorpha linum) is a highly durable and efficient green macroalgae, widely trusted by marine aquarists for nutrient control and ecosystem support. Ideal for use in refugia, algae scrubbers, and especially algae reactors, this species forms dense yet open masses thanks to its firm, wiry structure—allowing for optimal water flow and minimal compaction.
Its distinctive long, curved strands create a natural, sponge-like framework (often compared to a green scouring pad), offering a safe haven for beneficial microfauna such as copepods, amphipods, and isopods. This makes it an excellent addition for promoting biodiversity and supporting a healthy reef system.
Chaeto is a fast-growing algae when provided with strong, full-spectrum lighting, actively absorbing excess nutrients like nitrates and phosphates from the water column. As it grows, simply harvest portions of the algae to effectively export unwanted nutrients and maintain water quality.
