Red Ogo

Red Ogo (Gracilaria Parvispora) is a striking red to burgundy macroalgae that adds vibrant color to any refugium while offering a wide range of practical benefits for reef systems. Under the right conditions, Red Ogo can grow quickly, naturally absorbing nitrates and phosphates as it grows and helping reduce excess nutrients that would otherwise fuel unwanted algae.

Its dense, bushy structure also creates an ideal habitat for beneficial benthic life such as copepods, isopods, and amphipods. Many reef keepers grow Red Ogo in a refugium within the sump, making it easy to manage, harvest, and maintain. When run on a reverse photoperiod from the display tank, it can also help moderate pH swings in the aquarium.

In addition to its filtration benefits, Red Ogo is highly valued as a nutritious live food source for herbivorous fish like tangs and rabbitfish. We use it here in our store as well, feeding it to our fish to encourage new arrivals to start eating quickly. It provides a natural, low-waste food source that can remain in the tank until consumed, making it especially useful for herbivorous fish and for helping reduce food-related aggression.

Due to its sensitive nature, Red Ogo can only be shipped overnight to help ensure it arrives in the best possible condition.
