Myripristis sp.
The Bigeye Soldierfish, also known as the Bigeye Squirrelfish or Red Squirrelfish, is a hardy and unique marine fish recognized for its bright red coloration, large eyes, and slightly downturned mouth. Its bold appearance and nocturnal behavior make it an interesting addition to larger saltwater aquariums.
This species is generally peaceful but does best in an aquarium with plenty of rockwork, caves, and shaded areas where it can hide during the day. Bigeye Soldierfish are most active after the lights go out and may spend much of the daytime tucked away in the rockwork. A small group may be kept together in a properly sized aquarium with enough space and hiding areas.
Bigeye Soldierfish are carnivores and should be offered a varied diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and other prepared marine carnivore foods. They may need a little extra time to adjust when first introduced, and offering tempting frozen or live foods can help encourage feeding.
