The Caribbean Blue Leg Hermit Crab is a small, hardy, and colorful marine invertebrate that makes an excellent addition to saltwater clean-up crews. Easily recognized by its bright blue legs with dark banding, this active hermit crab adds movement and color while helping keep the aquarium cleaner.
Native to Caribbean reefs, rocky areas, and sandy shorelines, Blue Leg Hermits spend much of their time searching for algae, detritus, and leftover food. They do best in aquariums with live rock to explore, sandy areas to move across, and a selection of empty shells for future growth. Providing extra shells can help reduce competition with snails and other hermit crabs.
This species is peaceful, easy to care for, and well suited for reef and fish-only aquariums. In addition to grazing on natural algae and organic matter, it will readily accept supplemental foods such as algae wafers, pellets, and other prepared marine foods.
