Coral banded Shrimp

The Caribbean Banded Coral Shrimp is a popular marine invertebrate recognized for its vivid red-and-white markings, long white antennae, and distinctive clawed appearance. Its bold coloration and interesting behavior make it an attractive addition to many established reef and fish-only aquariums.

In the wild, this shrimp is commonly found around Caribbean and Western Atlantic reefs, where it shelters beneath rocky ledges and inside caves and crevices. Providing plenty of live rock and secure hiding places will help it feel comfortable in the aquarium. It is often more active after the lights dim, although it may also remain visible near the entrance of its chosen territory during the day.

Banded Coral Shrimp are generally compatible with fish, but they can become territorial toward other shrimp and similar-looking crustaceans. Keeping one per aquarium is usually recommended unless an established pair is housed in a larger system with ample space and hiding areas.

This species is considered reef safe and does not normally damage healthy corals. It may also display cleaning behavior by removing loose tissue or external debris from willing fish. Feed a varied carnivorous diet that includes mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, chopped marine seafood, and other quality frozen foods.
