The Flounder is a unique bottom-dwelling fish known for its flattened body and ability to blend into sandy environments. As it develops, both eyes migrate to one side of the body, allowing the fish to lay flat on the ocean or aquarium floor while watching for food and potential threats.
Flounders typically have a dull, sand-colored appearance that helps them camouflage against the substrate, making them very difficult to spot when resting on the bottom.
This species requires a soft sandy bottom, which allows it to bury, blend in, and move naturally. Flounders are predatory and may eat small fish or invertebrates that come within reach, so tankmates should be chosen carefully.
