Found throughout the Caribbean, this species naturally inhabits coral reefs and rocky areas with plenty of shelter. An aquarium with live rock, caves, and shaded overhangs will help it feel secure and provide places to explore. Barred Hamlets are usually compatible with similarly sized tank mates, but they may become territorial toward other hamlets or prey on fish and invertebrates small enough to fit in their mouth.

Once acclimated, the Caribbean Barred Hamlet is generally hardy and adjusts well to aquarium life. It should be offered a varied carnivorous diet that includes mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, chopped marine seafood, and quality frozen or prepared foods.

Its manageable adult size, distinctive pattern, and curious behavior make the Barred Hamlet an excellent option for experienced hobbyists looking to add a unique Caribbean species to an established aquarium.
