The Brittle Sea Star is a unique and useful addition to a saltwater aquarium clean-up crew. Common throughout the Caribbean, this species has a small central disc with long, slender arms covered in fine spines and natural patterning.
This sea star is mostly nocturnal and will often stay hidden under rocks or within the aquascape during the day. At night, it becomes more active, searching the aquarium for detritus, leftover food, and small bits of organic matter.
In the aquarium, the Brittle Sea Star should be provided with plenty of rockwork and hiding places. It can also be offered small meaty foods such as frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped shrimp, and mussel. Like many invertebrates, it is sensitive to copper-based medications and should never be exposed to copper.
