Red Spotted Hawkfish

The Red Spotted Hawkfish is a hardy and entertaining saltwater fish with plenty of personality. It has a pale body marked with red vertical striping, along with noticeable red spotting around the head. Its bold pattern and curious behavior make it a fun addition to many marine aquariums.

Hawkfish are known for their unique perching behavior. Because they do not have a swim bladder, they often rest on rockwork, coral branches, or the substrate instead of constantly swimming in open water. The Red Spotted Hawkfish uses its large pectoral fins to perch and “hop” from one favorite lookout spot to another while watching activity inside and outside the aquarium.

This species is generally hardy and easy to care for, making it a good choice for many saltwater hobbyists. It is considered reef safe with caution, as it usually leaves corals alone but may eat very small ornamental shrimp or tiny invertebrates. Feed a varied carnivorous diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or prepared marine foods.
