The Swissguard Basslet is a beautiful, colorful marine fish that makes an excellent showpiece in saltwater aquariums. Its vibrant red body, clean white striping, and bright blue accents around the eyes give it a bold look while maintaining a peaceful personality.
Native to deeper Caribbean reef habitats, this species prefers aquariums with plenty of rockwork, caves, and overhangs where it can feel secure. Swissguard Basslets can be shy when first introduced, but once settled, they often become more active and may be seen hovering near their favorite hiding spots or darting out at feeding time.
This species is generally reef safe and will not bother corals, making it a great choice for peaceful community reef tanks. However, very small ornamental shrimp may be at risk. Offer a carnivorous diet of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or prepared marine foods.
