Cowrie Snails are attractive marine snails valued for both their polished-looking shells and their usefulness as algae grazers. Their smooth, oval shells have a glossy appearance, often partially covered by the snail’s mantle as it moves throughout the aquarium.
These snails spend much of their time grazing on algae from rockwork, glass, and other aquarium surfaces. They may help control film algae, hair algae, and other nuisance algae, making them a useful addition to established saltwater aquariums with enough natural growth to support them.
Cowrie Snails are generally reef safe and do not typically bother corals, polyps, or other invertebrates. However, larger individuals can be somewhat clumsy and may knock over loose coral frags or unstable rockwork while moving around the tank. Secure aquascaping is recommended.
