The Caribbean Yellowhead Jawfish, also known as the Pearly Jawfish, is a charming and active marine fish known for its pearly-white body, bright yellow head, and entertaining burrow-building behavior. This species often hovers just above its burrow, quickly retreating when startled and reappearing once it feels safe.
Native to Caribbean sandy flats and rubble areas, Yellowhead Jawfish do best in aquariums with a deep sand bed for digging and constructing burrows. Scattered rubble, shells, and small pieces of rock can help provide structure and make the fish feel secure. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with other calm, non-aggressive tank mates.
This species adapts well to established aquariums and readily accepts a variety of meaty foods. Offer mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or prepared marine foods. Because Jawfish are known to jump when startled, a tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended.
