The Royal Gramma Basslet is a colorful and popular saltwater fish known for its bold purple and yellow coloration. Its front half displays a rich violet-purple shade that gradually transitions into a bright golden-yellow tail, making it a standout addition to reef and community aquariums.
Native to the reefs of the Caribbean, the Royal Gramma does best in aquariums with plenty of live rock, caves, and crevices where it can establish a small territory. It is generally peaceful and works well in most community reef setups, though it may become mildly territorial toward fish with a similar shape or color, especially in smaller tanks.
This hardy species is considered reef safe and will not bother corals or most invertebrates. Royal Grammas are known for their unique swimming habits, often hovering near rockwork or even positioning themselves upside down beneath ledges. Once acclimated, they usually accept a variety of foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped meaty foods, high-quality pellets, and flakes.
Its manageable size, bright coloration, and hardy nature make the Royal Gramma Basslet an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced saltwater hobbyists.
