Sea Robins are unusual bottom-dwelling marine fish known for their broad heads, large wing-like pectoral fins, and specialized fin rays that they use to move along and explore the substrate. Their natural brown, tan, and white coloration helps them blend into sandy and rubble-covered ocean bottoms.
In the aquarium, Sea Robins do best with a spacious sand bed and plenty of open bottom area where they can forage comfortably. Some rockwork can be provided for shelter, but enough unobstructed substrate should remain available for them to move around naturally.
Sea Robins are active scavengers and spend much of their time searching the bottom for crustaceans, small invertebrates, and other meaty foods. They have relatively large mouths and may eat smaller fish or invertebrates that they are able to swallow, so tankmates should be chosen carefully.
A varied carnivorous diet consisting of shrimp, clam, squid, krill, chopped seafood, and other marine-based foods is recommended.
